First things first, quit playing too much. Playing with your hair - whether you’re flirting with bae or out of boredom is a big no no. Twiddling your hair transfers oils from your fingertips to your strands which in turn, results in greasy tresses! Also, try to avoid letting people play with your hair, we know it’s feels like the best thing ever buuut, it doesn’t look so nice the next day *sigh*.

You wash your hair to cleanse the grease, right? Right! But, it doesn’t actually work to help prevent greasy hair. Did you know that washing your hair on the daily works to strip your scalp of its natural oils, thus producing more to replace them which ends with leaving you with greasy tresses? So if you currently wash your hair every day, try cutting back to washing your tresses every other day or at least 2/3 times a week if you can. Trust us, your hair will thank you in the long run and you’ll thank us *hair swish*.

Now, when you do wash your hair be sure to go easy on the conditioner. First of all, you need to avoid smothering conditioner all over your tresses (especially your root section) and instead, be sure to focus on the ends of your locks to avoid oily roots and lank looking hair. Next, you need to check that the conditioner you are using is right for your hair type. If you have super fine hair you need a lightweight conditioner to help nourish your tresses without weighing your hair down for example. To finish, make sure that you wash all of the product out of your hair as this is another grease-giving culprit and one that is oh so easy to prevent, just spend an extra few minutes rinsing your hair and you’re good to go.

Moving on to hairstyling products.... It’s super important to check that these are compatible with your hair type so keep an eye out for lightweight formulas and avoid opting for products which promote shine and moisture if you are suffering with grease prone tresses. These types would work better on dry/dull hair types, not hair that gets greasy super quickly.

Last but not least, have you thought that it may be time for a hair detox? Styling products can work to clog up your scalp and strands which is not helping when it comes to the health of your tresses. If you’re a dry shampoo fiend (like most greasy hair sufferers) it may be a good idea to give your locks a detox and get rid of that product buildup. You can easily do this by using a clarifying shampoo 2-4 times a month or by using a product which is designed to exfoliate the scalp to keep it nice and healthy, it’s completely up to you. Just remember, the scalp is the gateway to healthy hair so you need to keep it in tip top condition to reap the rewards of healthy hair.
