To give our M+B babes ultimate hair inspo, we’ve started a ‘Hair History’ series here on the Milk + Blush blog. In Hair History, we’re taking a look back at some iconic hairstyles through the years and tracing the hair evolution of our fave stars and celebs to where they are today.

For this months post we’ve chosen hair chameleon Drew Barrymore who’s experimented with every colour and style from boho waves to perms and crops. She’s the ultimate cool girl inspiration and is currently starring in our new Netflix obsession The Santa Clarita Diet.

1982

At age 7 she starred in one of the most iconic movies of all time, E.T as Gertie. She was the cutest child actor we’ve ever seen and we’re in love with those rope tied bunches.

1988

At age 13 Drew rocked the biggest hair trend of the decade, a perm. We like that hers is super loose and wavy. It’s a lot more wearable than some of the tighter, poodle inspired versions of the time...

1990

How gorgeous is this honey toned blonde! Paired with her messy, bed head waves and a killer biker jacket it’s a lesson in cool girl hair.

1995

At the Batman Forever premier Drew rocked this layered crop with some very 90s daisy hair pins. These were her signature accessory at the time and she wore them EVERYWHERE. We’re kinda glad that phase is over though...

2000

For her role as Dylan Sanders in Charlie’s Angels, Drew went for this gorgeous auburn shade and chopped her hair into a long bob, very practical for fighting bad guys! 

2003

At the premier of Charlie’s Angels 2 Drew found her signature style in these effortlessly textured waves. No longer rocking her auburn hair she’s gone for a super light blonde that looks amazing with her skin tone. Pass the salt spray asap...

2007

For the Music and Lyrics Festival she went for this super sophisticated, layered cut. We love the sleek look on Drew and that root drag is effortlessly beautiful.

2009

This hair is incredible and totally different for Drew but we love that she channelled the 1950s with those curls. Nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress Golden Globe for Grey Gardens she switched back to blonde and added maximum volume to her roots. We have no doubt Little Eddie would approve...

2009

Later this year she released her directorial debut Whip It starring Ellen Page and made a big hair change for the occasion. These dipped ends are so cool and the harsh contrast is amazingly well executed. We’re definitely trying this out next time we want to experiment with colour!

2011

We LOVE Drew with auburn hair and this colour is no exception. Her colourist Tracey Cunningham told Allure that the look was inspired by a famous model, we wonder who?

2012

So pretty! Drew married Will Kopelman in California and went back to her blonde roots for the occasion. We love this swept back style too and it works really well with her veil and high neck dress.

2014

On the Golden Globes red carpet with her husband and a growing baby bump Drew looked super glowy in this floral dress. We love her sleek, deep side parted hair and that level of glossiness is goals.

2016

For a cover shoot with Marie Claire she went back to the beachy waves we know, love and wish were ours. These highlighted locks are effortlessly boho and the perfect length, so dreamy!

2017

As Queen of the Golden Globes Drew didn’t disappoint on last year's red carpet. These extra long waves are so glossy and the epitome of effortless glamour.

Ditching her long locks again she debuted a new shorter haircut for an editorial with InStyle magazine. We love the soft honey tones and signature long roots, beautiful!
