It’s super annoying when a style doesn’t turn out how you want it to but it might be because you’re skipping some important steps. To make sure your hair is photo ready here are 10 red carpet hair hacks you need to know...

Get your blowdry right

Nailing the perfect hairstyle requires starting with a great base and getting your blowdry right will make a big difference. You want to create as much lift at your roots as possible to keep your hair looking super full and voluminous. You can also set your hair straight or curly depending on how you plan on styling it to give yourself a great starting point.

Mega Shine

Celebrity Hairstylist Giannandrea swears by spritzing Chrissy Teigen’s hair with oil for extra shine. This trick is amazing on a full head of curls and will make your hair look super glossy in photographs.

Fill in your hairline

Filling in your hairline with some eyeshadow will help to make your hair look super full and thick on camera. You can even correct an uneven hairline too! Just make sure to use a little bit at a time to keep it looking natural.

If your hair is fine or really soft you might want to skip using conditioner beforehand to make sure you don’t weigh down your hair. This is great for full volume styles or anything that requires some extra texture.

Add texture

Hair stylist George Papanikolas told Marie Claire that he sprays dry shampoo from the mid lengths to ends to add texture to clean hair. This will give it more staying power and volume as well as adding thickness.

Never skip the mousse

If you find your curls are dropping after an hour then this one is for you. Just apply mousse to your wet hair before blow drying to give it extra volume and hold. They use this at the Victoria’s Secret show to create those supermodel waves so you know it’s a good hack.

Maintenance is key

Hairstylist Lona Vigi told Elle magazine that she often gives her clients travel size products to take with them to events so they can maintain their hairstyle. Throw a few bobby pins and a mini hairspray in your clutch for touch ups and you’ll be totally covered if your look starts to fall. This is a great hack for weddings too, when you need your style to last all day.

Pretty much everyone on the red carpet is wearing hair extensions. They’re the quickest and easiest way to add length and thickness as well as a pop of colour to any hairstyle. You can also style them before to save time and they hold a style way better than your natural hair too. If you need some inspo check out our red carpet inspired prom looks here.

Tame Flyaways

Gigi Hadid told Byrdie that she uses a makeup brush sprayed with hairspray to tame flyaways. For super sleek looks rogue hairs can be really annoying so it’s worth taking the time to really smooth everything down. If you find that’s not quite strong enough you can use a toothbrush and some wax instead as it’s more heavy duty.

Keep your hair healthy

As much as platinum hair can look amazing, inches of split ends will never be red carpet worthy. The condition of your hair is really important and keeping on top of trims and treatments is key to having expensive looking locks. Regular masks will help too and try and take a few days off from heat styling during the week to keep it in the best condition.
