Today, we’re bringing you the lowdown on what NOT to do with hair extensions. We know how much you love your dreamy M + B hair extensions so it’s only right that you know all things extennies. So, read on to find out if you’re guilty of committing any of these clip-in extension sins...
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS #1
Our first example of what not to do with hair extensions is super important. Do not, we repeat do not bleach them. Or, for that matter, lighten them in any way! Milk + Blush Hair Extensions have already been through a chemical bleaching process, so don’t put them through any more peroxide-related torment, we beg you. Bleaching our hair extensions will not only cause unnecessary damage to the delicate wefts, but it will also significantly reduce your clip-ins’ lifespan - a major no go.
However, if you want to dye your extensions up to two shades darker or tone them, this will not damage them. Plus you can also dye your M + B Hair Extensions pretty pastel shades without causing any damage, too.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS #2
Another example of what not to do with hair extensions is to wash them! Yup, you may think that you’re actually helping your hair extensions by doing so - but you’re actually causing them more damage than good. Hair Extensions do not have the natural supply of oils that our growing hair does, so washing your hair extennies will only result in dry, lacklustre locks. Instead we swear by RemySoft Silicone Coating/Spritz to freshen up our hair extensions. This amazing stuff works to smooth and seal your hair extensions for a sleek, flawless finish.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS #3
Wanna know what not to do with hair extensions when it comes to styling them? Well, our advice would be not to overdo it on the heated styling tools - including the hair dryer. Whenever you are using heat on your hair extensions, be sure to use a heat protector (our fave is the Tigi S Factor Flat Iron Heat Defender FYI) and if you can, use a low heat setting.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS #4
Another example of what not to do with hair extensions is a faux pas we see quite often - clipping them in too close to your hairline. Hair extensions that are attached too close to the hairline are not only instantly noticeable, but they can also feel a little painful and be prone to slipping out.
Instead of falling into this common hair extension trap, make sure to attach your clip-ins roughly half an inch away from your scalp and two inches away from your hairline for a comfortable and natural finish.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS #5
Okay gals, whatever you do, don’t try cutting your hair extensions yourself. Not only is this a major example of what not to do with hair extensions but you’ll more often than not end up having to buy a new set after chopping off waaaay too much of your dreamt tresses. If you’d like your extensions to be trimmed to blend in with your natural tresses, take them to your hair stylist - he or she can then cut them professionally and your dream hair will soon be yours.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS #6
Our final piece of advice on what not to do with hair extensions? Never, ever, ever like eveeeeer sleep in your clip-ins. As tempting as it may be after a wild night out, sleeping in your hair extensions is a really bad habit. It will cause your hair extensions to become matted - and they’ll end up tugging on your natural hair too. Ouch!
Always remember to take out your clip-ins before hitting the hay - not only will you get a more comfortable night’s sleep but you’ll be prolonging your hair extensions’ life expectancy, too!
So, there you have it - our six top tips on what not to do with hair extensions! Can you think of any more hair extensions no-nos that you’d like to add? : )
