Today, we’re here to steer you away from the mistakes you’re making with your curling iron so that your hair stays as dreamy as it should be…
Mistakes You’re Making With Your Curling Iron #1
Okay so the first mistake you’re making with your curling iron comes even before you’ve plugged them in. Yup - prepping your hair correctly is one of the most important things to do when it comes to getting perfect curls, so scrimping on prep time is a big no-no here at M + B HQ. As always, be sure to use a heat protection spray - that’s a given. If you find that your hair doesn’t hold curls very well, don’t leave hairspray until the final step. Use some spray on each section of hair before you curl it, as this will help to create longer lasting waves. : )
Mistakes You’re Making With Your Curling Iron #2
Now, one of the most common mistakes gals make with their curling irons is curling in the wrong direction. Did you know that curling your hair away from your face will always give you the most natural and beautiful looking style? To make sure that you’re styling your hair in this way, it’s as easy as wrapping your hair clockwise around the iron barrel on the right side of your head and counterclockwise on the left… How easy?!
Mistakes You’re Making With Your Curling Iron #3
Another easy mistakes to make with your curling tool is curling too much hair at a time. If you do this, you won’t get an even distribution of heat throughout the section of hair, which will cause your curls to drop out quickly and make it super tricky for them to even curl at all. Instead, take 1-2” sections of hair at a time for the best results. We’d advise varying the sizes of your sections between these as you’ll get a gorgeous, natural looking wavy, babe finish.
Mistakes You’re Making With Your Curling Iron #4
Holding your hair on your curling iron for too long is one of the most damaging mistakes you can make when it comes to curling your hair, too. Along with curling wet hair eeek, like, we’ve all seen THAT viral video *shudder*. Don’t be tempted to turn the heat right up on your iron either, only super thick or coarse hair types need that much heat. Instead, for finer hair types be sure to turn the temperature down and only leave your hair in the clamp or around the wand for up to three seconds. Thicker hair types should only be held for 5 seconds. Got it?! : )
Mistakes You’re Making With Your Curling Iron #5
Touching your hair too soon after curling is just asking for trouble. Realistically, it’s only going to cause you unsightly frizz and drooping curls...which is not something you’re trying to achieve (we hope!). Make sure that you leave your curls to cool before touching, as this will allow them to set into position which means they’ll last longer, too. Finish with a spritz of hairspray to keep those curls in place.
So, are you guilty of making any of these mistakes with your curling iron? : )
