Are you a bit of an hair extension addict and have some laying around that you just can’t bear to part with? Don’t worry - you don’t have to say goodbye just yet. Simply read on for our handy guide on what to do with old hair extensions and give your faithful clip ins a new lease of life...

What To Do With Old Hair Extensions - The Hair Rat

First in our list of what to do with old hair extensions is a M + B fave - the hair rat. Although this volumizing hair tool might not have the most appealing of names, it is ah-mazing for adding enviable body to an array Brigitte Bardot inspired hairstyles. *Spoiler* - a lot of backcombing is required when creating this volume-boosting styling tool, so this is definitely one for extensions that have seen much better days and that you don’t plan on wearing super sleek any time soon.

Okay so, to create your hair rat, all you'll need is some old hair extensions, a backcombing brush, a hair net and some hair extension clips (you can also use bobby pins if you have no clips to hand). Collected all of the necessary items? Then check out our guide to making a hair rat right here.

What To Do With Old Hair Extensions - Hair Tapestry

Now, if you have a bit of time to spare and a couple of old hair extension wefts lying around - then we suggest you put on your crafty hat and set about creating an ultra-boho hair tapestry. These woven hair creations were one of the hottest hair trends of the summer last year and we’re predicting that they are going to make a comeback this year, too.

All you'll need to create your very own hair tapestry is an old hair extension weft, a tapestry loom, embroidery thread, scissors and a needle. Then, you can follow our simple guide to creating a hair tapestry right here.

What To Do With Old Hair Extensions - Super Bun

Are you a fan of the topknot but not so much a fan of the lack of thickness your hair has in this hairstyle? If so, the third item in our list of things to do with old hair extensions could be the answer to your hair woes. Step forward, super bun. This extension-wrapped hair doughnut is the perfect tool for cheating a thick, full bun in a matter of minutes.

To create your super bun, all you'll need is a regular hair doughnut, some bobby pins, and - of course, a few old hair extension wefts. Take a look at our guide to creating the bun here.

What To Do With Old Hair Extensions - Revive Them

Last but not least, just because you've had your old hair extensions for a while, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're past it and you can never wear them again.

Here at M + B, we're all about reviving our old hair extensions using RemySoft Blue Max Protective Sealer. Trust us, this stuff is what dreams are made of - it makes old hair extensions soft, it removes tangles, it protects hair from UV damage - and just helps to prolong their lifespan in general. Need we say more? : )

To use RemySoft Blue Max Protective Sealer simply squeeze a pea sized amount into the palm of your hands and rub your hands together. Then distribute evenly throughout the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. Once applied with your hands, be sure to brush through with a loop brush to ensure that the product is distributed evenly. Once applied, leave your hair laid out flat overnight on a towel. The next morning, straighten your hair extensions (use a heat protector first of course). Using the straighteners will help seal the Silicone Spritz into your hair extensions for a flawless finish. Once straightened, style and wear as normal. Your old hair extensions will be given a new lease of life and you’ll have fresh hair extensions. Win, win!

And there we have it, gals. Do you have any other tips and tricks about what to do with your old hair extensions? : )
